Both cause dehydration, and it can be pretty severe at times depending on how much you consume in a day. I've done that on a few occasions. I've gotten to the point where my lips have been chapped, and the thirst level increases greatly. You also lose needed nutrients in drinking either one. Caffieine isn't as bad as alcohol though, with alcohol, you can lose enough that you require hospitalization.
