Paw paw is an edible berry fruit and also known as paw-paw and papaw. It is assumed that the name came from papaya due to a superficial similarity in their pattern. It weighs about 20 gm (0.04 lb) to 200 gm (0.44 lb). When it is unripe, its colour is green or bottle-green. And while ripe, the colour changes to yellowish brown. It contains high protein. The taste resembles the taste of banana and mango, depending of the cultivation process. There are various species of paw paw available in different regions of the world, like, Florida, Georgia, Texas, Virginia, Alabama, New York, etc, for example. Below are few names of different species:-

• Netted pawpaw
• Small flower pawpaw
• Common pawpaw
• Big flower pawpaw
• Woolly pawpaw
• Dwarf pawpaw

Paw paw has a good medicinal value. It is considered as a potential anti-cancer agent, which may lead to a good opening to future pharmaceutical industry. Also it is used in homeopathy as well as in Ayrveda for different kinds of internal health problem as well as skin problem.
