1 cup of granulated sugar is exactly equal to 1 1/2 cups + 2 tbsp + 2 tsp of confectioners(powdered) sugar
in other words 1 cup of granulated sugar is roughly a little less than 1 3/4 cups of icing(powdered) sugar

i'm not understanding how this works... Officially it says 1 cup of granulated sugar = 1 3/4 cup powdered, but how does that make any sense?  Think about whole pecans: If you fill 1 cup with wholes pecans, then chop them into fine pieces, would it then fill more than 1 cup? No, it would be much more compact and fill less than 1 cup.  Think about large kosher salt compared to fine table salt.  If a recipe calls for 1 tablespoon of kosher salt, would you substitute it with 1 tablespoon of fine table salt? No, it would be too salty then.  Powdered sugar is much more fine than granulated, so why would u need more powdered to be equivalent to granulated, you would need less.  If a recipe calls for 1 cup of sugar and you use 1 3/4 cup of powdered, its gonna be inedibly sweet.  Is the world taking crazy pills?

Powdered sugar = confectioner's sugar = icing sugar Substitutes: Mix 1 cup granulated sugar + 1 tablespoon corn starch in blender until powdery, stirring often

I would think that you could substitute powdered for granulated more accurately by weight than by volume.

There is no hard and fast rule for it, but I can tell you a trick it may prove beneficial for you. You need a grinder. Take one cup of granulated sugar put it into grinder, when it becomes powder put it into your recipe. More over you can know for future that how much powdered sugar is equal to granulated sugar. Take care :)

A cup of fine sugar or a cup of powdered sugar might seem to be the same. But infact I think that a cup of powdered sugar is much more than a cup of fine sugar because a cup of fine sugar when powdered will be less than the other . So I think that a powdered is more than the fine one.
