It must be frustrating for you if you are under 21. Are you?  They changed the law because so many teenagers were getting off their heads and abusing the system.  Also the hospitals were having to deal with growing numbers of people being bought to the hospitals in ambulances because they had drank far too much & were doing things like fighting, being abusive to people & drinking way to much that the hospitals even had a major increase with teenagers getting liver disease & other alcohol related health issues.  I wish that the law changed to 21 when I was younger because i abused my body both with drink and drugs & I'm just glad I managed to get myself out of that terrible situation. If you are under 21 & sum1 offers you a drink plase please please say no. You'll thank me for it one day. Its just not worth it. It changes your mind, body & thoughts. If you ever have any questions regarding things like this then please don't hesitate to contact me.  Believe me thinking "oh, i'll just have the odd 1" does not work like that.  It turns into 3 then 4 then 5 etc etc etc. I hoped I've helped you in some sort of way. I could go on forever the things that drinking has led me onto (other things) etc. Some people can take it but in our youth today its a bad bad thing. If I could I would ban it. I've had friends die through alclhol abuse. Don't do it mate, please xxxxxxxx, Donna xxxxx

Because Ronald Reagan forced states to change the law to 21 or lose federal funding for highways. So many of the states did not want to do this but were forced to by the tyrannical power federal government. When I was eighteen you could drink but when I was eighteen and a half I could not drink again in Virginia. But I moved to South Carolina and the law had not changed. When the law changed first every year in South Carolina the law changed to 19 then 20 then 21. When the law changed to 19. I was 19 when it changed to twenty I was twenty, and when it changed to 21 I was 21. Nuff said

G'day Caitlen,

Thank you for your question.

They can. People over 18 can drink in most countries other than the US. The National Minimum Drinking Age Act in the US withheld revenue from states which allowed people under 21 to drink. Depending on the State around the US, private consumption of alcohol by people under the age of 21 may or may not be banned. Wikipedia has an article on legal drinking ages throughout the world.

I don't know exactly why they changed the law, but I do not see it as being that smart to start drinking that young. I have seen many teens die from alcohol related incidences such as car wrecks, alcohol poisoning, fights, and just being stupid, falling and getting hurt bad enough to die.
Although, for the same reasons I think some adults shouldn't be allowed to drink either.

Because of some stupid people wanted to make sure that kids will live to grow longer and give them something to look forward too, but i think that if you can hold your drinks you should be able to drink
