I'm what's technically known as a geezer which means my exercise opportunities are restricted. Three years ago I needed to lose weight and dropped 50 lbs / 23 kg in six months.

I started eating smaller portions, stopped snacking, and switched to healthier foods. And I WALKED.

I started off doing 4 km / 2.5 miles every day and built that up fairly quickly to a minimum 6 km a day.

That's all you need to do. The amount of time you spend will depend on how quickly you walk.

Well stated. You burn the same calories walking a mile as running a mile.

I love running, Shiny, but my feet and knees don't let me do it any more. Spent too much time training for marathons in the 1980s. Still I wouldn't change a thing. They were great fun.

Glad you made the switch across from Ask. I always enjoy your input, even if we don't always agree.

Walking is one of the better sports, as it's slow, and it's tender so if you can walk everyday by half hour, it's  good for the health.

It differs greatly between people. I walk every week day for about 30 minutes and run 1-2 days a week and the loss is very slow. My wife can lose weight just by washing the dishes... Life's not fair, lol. Good luck on your endeavor!

You don't walk for weight loss, you walk for fitness. Fitness and weight loss are two different things. The more proficient way to lose weight is dieting. Dieting is everything.

Take a single egg out of your breakfast, that's about how much net calories you burn walking an entire mile. A 200 lb person burns around 60 net calories (Subtract base metabolic rate) after walking a mile. An egg is 72 calories.

So if a single pound = 3500 calories, you're going to need to walk 58 miles to lose a single pound.

To lose weight, you just need to eat less. Use a simple calculator to determine how much calories you should eat a day  www.calorieking.com/interactive-tools/how-many-calories-shou

About 30 minutes every day. I have tried and I feel this way work quite effectively on weight loss.

Beside walking, you should take a proper diet. You can consume brazil nuts that enable you to manage your weight more efficiently and easily. To know in detail about it, you can consult at: Brazil nuts- health benefits
