My husband has gout and we have to do trial and error about the foods he eats.  It has something to do with the " Purines" in certains foods. If the food is high in Purines, then its horrible for gout.  For example, TURKEY.... Is one of these foods. It is very high in Purines, and my husband can eat 1 bite of Turkey, and he will start hurting before he swallows it good!!!

Hope you find your answers!!!

Gout is a type of arthritis, which occur when uric acid is crystallized in joints usually affecting toe. There is no proper treatment of gout but proper diet can help you in elimination of symptoms. Uric acid is produced by purine which is present in many foods like red meat, peas, beans, shellfish, tongue, brains, liver, kidneys, tripe, sardines and anchovies. Avoid taking these foods. Increase your fluid intake.

There are many that you can and can't eat. I am surprised your doctor didn't give you a list, they should have. There is some information on gout at www.wikipedia.org, and you can also look at www.webmd.com Sorry I can't give you more.
