Hypervitaminosis is a syndrome caused by the excessive accumulation of vitamins. The excessive accumulation of vitamin A causes the person to have vitamin A toxicity. The main characteristics of hypervitaminosis A include dry skin, skin irritation, a change in the pigmentation of the skin and a slow and progressively receding hairline on a person's scalp, body, eyebrows and eyelashes.

Some of the common symptoms of hypervitaminosis A include rapid loss of weight, frequent fatigue, anaemia, pain in the bones and enlargement of the liver and spleen. Vitamin A toxicity is basically of two types: acute vitamin A toxicity, which is caused by the excessive accumulation of vitamin A over a short span of time, and chronic vitamin A toxicity, which occurs when the excess vitamin A is accumulated over a longer period of time. Hypervitaminosis A can be cured by reducing the consumption of foods rich in Vitamin A, such as fish, meat, milk and other dairy products and eggs, which are high in beta-carotene and cholesterol.
