Halal meat, is meat that is slaughtered in accordance with Islamic law. The word Halal is an Arabic word which means permissible.
Islamic Law, as defined in the Koran, makes it necessary for animals to be killed by a cut through the jugular vein, windpipe and carotid artery. All the blood must then be drained from the carcass. While this is taking place, a Muslim will recite a dedication known as tasmiya.
Islamic law does not permit animals to be killed by stunning.
This method of slaughter which is different from the conventional, non-religious method, has caused controversy in the past.
Followers of Islam must eat only Halal meat.
