My mom would break up thin pretzels, put them in a large drinking glass, fill it with milk, add a couple teaspoons of sugar and a teaspoon of vanilla extract. She'd give me a spoon and a straw and I would go to town on it. It was the BEST!!!!!
Grilled Cheese. I still like them. ;*)
My mom used to make these tiny round doughnuts, in the shape of a tiny ball, which were popular in French Canada in New Brunswick and also in Maine (and I think everywhere actually).
She made a thick batter and then dropped them by teaspoons into hot oil and then took them out and covered with sugar or confectioners sugar. They were warm and tasty.
I can't find the recipe anywhere -does anyone know how to make these little tiny fried doughnuts?
Homemade pierogies
As cliched as it is, it was probably a hamburger and fries. Not talking fast food places, really, but there were some great burger places around where I grew up and going there was always a super treat for me.
My favorite was Eagle Brand evaporated milk on toast. Amazing what a kid will eat!
My grandma's homemade vegetable beef soup (with plenty of cabbage). I still make it when I have the time.
My Mom used to make the best pork chops. I would chew on the bone until I got every piece of meat off of it.
Spaghetti and meatballs 😋
Pizza was top of the food chain for me . . .
