Acai berries are well-known for their healthy properties, and are supposedly full of nutrients and antioxidants that are beneficial to our health.

However, the truth is that a lot of the claims that Acai berry suppliers make are complete baloney.

The health benefits of Acai berries
The Acai berry first hit the health food market sometime in 2004. The cranberry-like fruit (native to Central and South America) seemingly came out of nowhere.

But, in actual fact, the popularity of the fruit has a lot to do with the multi-layered marketing campaigns run by various Acai berry suppliers.

Just by browsing the internet, you can find Acai-based products that claim to cure diabetes, clean urine for drug testing, and reduce cholesterol. In reality, there is no scientific evidence to back up all these claims.

Worse still, fruits like pomegranates, blueberries, or cranberries actually provide more nutrients and health benefits than Acai berries do - and are usually cheaper to import or buy.

Even though Acai berries do have some health-benefits, there are better and cheaper options out there!

Researchers have found the Acai berry has antioxidants that may protect cells from damage caused by harmful molecules in the body called "free radicals," and may possibly help against diseases such as heart disease and cancer.

But when it comes as one of weight loss products, the hype is ahead of the science, because the research evidence for such a connection is lacking.
