Nestle is the world's largest food company, with a market capitalisation of $172 billion.  They are four times bigger than Kraft ($40bn) and over ten times bigger than Heinz ($13bn).  For the record, Unilever, who is very prominent in the food industry, has a market cap of $86bn.

Walmart isn't a food company, it's a retailer, so is irrelevant to the question (though out of interest, they are bigger than all of these companies, at $209bn).

Note - while some of the above companies are listed on non-US stock exchanges, the above valuations are all USD.

Nestle is actually the world's largest food company.  It has approximately 495 stores worldwide.  Their range varies from coffee, dairy products and baby food to mineral waters.  They are now the world's biggest ice-cream maker since they bought out an Italian company in January 2006.

Nestle's was founded in 1866, by Henri Nestle who was by profession, a pharmacist.  He started off with baby food and since then the company has gone on to establish itself as the global leader in food production.

Throughout its history the company has had some controversy, with its promotion of baby milk within Africa being viewed by many as a means of targeting the poorest in the world to buy milk as opposed to using breast milk.

Recently however, particularly within the UK, they have been seen as taking a lead with regard to banning the use of genetically modified food, but they are now subject to some scrutiny due to the growing problem of obesity within developed countries.
