Buy some premium fresh beef mince first of all – cheaper mince cuts are very gristly and ruin every Italian type meal. Lower fat is also best for health.

Use a small amount of diced smoked bacon or lardons and fry until starting to brown. Add the mince to the pan and cook on high heat until the mince is browning too. Pour in a jar of a good quality ready made sauce such as Dolmio, or use chopped tinned tomatoes with garlic and herbs, a dash of red wine and then supplement with your own herbs and black pepper and salt as required.

Mix together and simmer for at least 20 minutes while you prepare the pasta to be al dente, and any extras for the meal such as fresh salad, garlic bread and grated cheese for garnish.

This is a meal you can make for four, six or eight people in about 30 minutes and is economical and nutritious.
