For me I enjoy an eatery with soft ambient music, lots of lighting so I can see what I am eating,  Comfortable chairs and a decent size table. Conservative decor as in soft shades of colors.

Back in the late 1930's there was a restaurant called Don the Beachcomber that started the Polynesian Tiki themed craze in California. Some of these restaurants are still around, and I enjoy them because they remind me of my childhood. They have wonderful Puu Puu platters, umbrella drinks, and a Scorpion drink in a flaming volcano, for two.

There was one about an hour away. We'd go there when we visited my grandparents in Chicago. It had this hokey little motel attached. I loved it as a little girl ! They had these cups that were carved statue heads, and you put your straw in the top of its head.

Oh yeah, a Tiki theme staple. I wonder how many places are around the country. They still have quite a few here.

Clean is good! Most of my favorite restaurants are on water. Either the beach, or a river. They are casual and open air.
