The problem you are experiencing with your squash may have nothing to do with borers. Squash bugs  "or stink bugs" have a toxin in their saliva that poisons the plant. I have seen perfectly healthy plants slowly turn bright yellow then dry up and die all togeather because of these nasty creatures.

Look for Squash Vine Borers.

You can slit the infested vine lengthwise (near the sign of the borer) and remove borers or kill them with a long pin or needle. Place soil over slit stem after removing the borer to encourage root development, and keep plants well watered.

Squashes  die  to  high  temp  during  the  day  and  absence  of  sunlight

Are you growing them on a mound? If not, then you might want to make that happen for them. They typically don't grow well on flat ground, and will die off rather quickly if they are on flat ground. You also want to make sure that the soil deep in the mound stays moist. Hope this helps, good luck.

I've grown squash on flat ground, filled rows, and mounds - never had any difficulty due to shape of the seed bed. If you get a lot of rain the mound would be more important.
