There are virtually no benefits to junk food – the term itself is a pretty big giveaway!

Junk food is fine in moderation, but you want to make sure that you’re getting most of your nutrients elsewhere.

Pros of Eating Junk Food
  • Usually tastes nice
  • You get a quick burst of energy
  • It’s quick and convenient as it doesn’t usually need preparing
Cons of Eating Junk Food
  • Virtually no nutritional value
  • Often gives you a sugar high followed by an energy crash
  • Obesity
  • Heart problems
  • Diabetes
  • Poor skin
  • Tooth decay
  • Lethargy
  • Depression
  • Mood swings
  • Some junk food is thought to cause cancer
  • Can cause cravings
  • Damage to the environment - for example, McDonald's is responsible for cutting down huge areas of rainforest in order to make room for cattle
As you can see, there are lots of reasons not to eat junk food on a regular basis! It's nice to have occasionally, but if it's all you eat, you're putting your health at risk.

  • The pros are that it is fast and gives some nutrition.
  • The cons are that it is often highly processed high fat, high calorie, low nutrition, and lacking in fiber and essential nutrients.  You can live on junk food but you are unlikely to live well on junk food.
