Subway has come up with a thru-put system or program. The consumer will stand at the machine to decide what they want to order. They will tell the computer what sandwich, bread, cheese, and other toppings they want it to have.
When the employee is ready for the next order they need to get ready, they will read the thru- put machine on their side to get the order; the order can then be made. The employee ringing up the sale can then access the same computer and complete the sale. It still provides customer service to the customer, but ensures a higher level of accuracy of orders.

In most Subway restaurants, an employee asks what the customer wants. The customer then has to tell them everything they want on the sandwich. In most cases, the employee will need to explain the choices if the customer is not sure what they want or what a sandwich is.
With the thru-put system, the customer can look at the various choices, make their choice and ensure the food is made to their specifications. With verbal chatter in a loud restaurant it can sometimes be difficult to hear in the back where the employees are. The thru put system allows the employee a better chance of perfecting the sandwich, while still being friendly and welcoming to their consumers.
The touch screen is not available in all Subways. It is most helpful for those who have trouble communicating in the appropriate language or have a reason that communicating verbally is not possible or particularly difficult.
