This is a problem faced by anyone who makes the choice not to eat dairy products due to lactose intolerance, myself included, which by the way you can develop at any age, not just as a child.
The answer is nuts, and in particular almonds, which are the new wonder food, they are packed with calcium help to regulate blood sugars and are full of the good oils that the body needs to function in health, and avoid cravings. They also provide fibre. They should be consumed in a pure state with the skins on and not blanched, roasted or salted. They are very versatile and can be processed with a little water to make a cream to eat with fruit salad as a treat. Since I cannot eat dairy cream or icecream I have this instead. Just wiz up a cup full of almonds with 1 and a half cups of almonds in a liquidiser till smooth.
Healthy steamed vegetables, like spinach, cabbage and potatoes are also full of calcium just don't overcook them
