Canned food expiration codes can be found usually at the top or the bottom of the can. They usually look something like this: 080708.

The first two numbers represent the date. So the above example would be the 8th of the month. The next two digits refer to the month and the last two digits represent the year. So 080708 would be the 8th of July 2008. This is only in the UK however so it really depends upon where you live.

You should find that the date is usually quite long on cans and tins and so when you first purchase something, it should have at least six months before it expires. This is because canned food contains a lot of preservatives to help it to store for longer.
