To some extent it depends on personal preference. So what I'm writing is how I like it, Use it as a starting point.

Get some good quality plain salted tortilla (maize) chips. Doritos Dippas are quite good for this. Saltier and heavier (but cheaper) would be the tortilla chips sold in Lidl.

Find a microwaveable glass bowl (can do it in the oven, too).

Put a layer of chips in. Lightly coat with shredded cheese, add another layer of chips, repeat cheese, repeat chips, and so on. Finish with a light layer of cheese.

Inbetween the layers I would also add:
Chopped olives;
Chopped fresh coriander;
Small spoonfulls of mild salsa
Small spoonfulls of refried beans (cooked, mashed and lightly fried pinto beans).

Typically put in microwave for 1 minute or until the top layer of cheese is barely melted. Set oven heat to medium hot and put bown in for 5-10 minutes (until cheese barely melted).

Serve with guacamole (mashed avocado mixed with salsa) and sour cream or Greek yogurt.

Chopped chiles can be set on the side or added in the layers.
