Well, I think we all do eat things we drop in the ground from time to time, sometimes you will dust it of and rinse it a bit or what ever some just pick it up and eat it, I sometimes do it but then I'll be at home and I will still clean it before I eat it.  We should actually never eat things of the flour doesn't matter if it is at our own homes because I've looked under a microscope at food that fell on the floor and you will be horrified to see what is on there, things that you can't see with the naked eye, luckily we all have a immune systems otherwise I suppose most of us will be dead by now from eating things of the floor, haha

In most cases I agree with all the other posters,  but actually the word "EVER" is the key word in your question.  I think some foods would be ok.  For instance I would eat food that you would peel before eating (such as a banana) or that could be peeled (such as an apple).  I would wash it off first before peeling but then I see no reason not to eat it after washing and peeling.

We as humans can survive without food for weeks (all cases are different)  but water is pretty much needed all the time (fluids)..I would eat food off the ground if I was starving and it was not a dirty surface as stated in other posts...but I sure would not drink dirty water...(that would really kill ya')

I do, doesn't bother me. I should say that it also depends where I am. I'm thinking mostly in my home not out on the street :)

They say there's a three second rule (if it touches the ground longer than three seconds, don't eat it). I say look out for the terrain it lands on. If it's in the bathroom, the kitchen, or on a carpet...NO!!! If it's outside, you've probably got a better chance (if you want to go for that either). But, no, leave it for someone (or something) else that may be hungrier than you!

Are you saying I have a dirty house? My wife works her fingers to the bone cleaning, I know because I sit and watch her every day.

No, there is a number of bacteria that may be collected on the food after you dropped on the ground, or many other creepy-crawlies that lay on your food. That is pretty unhygienic if you ever eat that. Better throw them into the dustbin or just leave it on the ground, and not consume them, only if it is in your home. I won't want you getting hospitalized and sent to hospital for food poisoning. Well, actually you could buy a lot of food in America in this food haven, so why picked up dropped food when you got lots of food to spare. Better stay clean and not become bankrupt by the hospital bills.

I recently read in the magazine, that by the time the five second rule is over, the bacteria will have more on the food than your bones! Even if a piece of food falls on the floor for 1 second, it will already have a ton of bacteria on it! So no, i don't necessarily think it is good to eat food of the floor.

Depends on the ground in which your standing(get it). If you dropped it in a hospital no not on your life if in your own kitchen use the 3 second rule.some bacteria is actually good for your immune system. Now if you have animals then no.to many diseases animals carry from going outside or from a litter box.i seem to remember food comes from the "ground" and God let mana fall from heaven to eat so this question has several choices/possible answers.

I think my immune system is fully developed because I do eat things that drop as long as they don't get any dirt or other obvious stuff on them.

OMG...I mean if I drop it and I assure you that I will be eating or cooking OVER a clean spot......who really cares?? I just got into an argument with my neighbor cause her husband and I were grilling and HER  friends were over. Well, one of the chickens rolled off the grill and onto the concrete. I grabbed it claiming the three second rule and took it in the house, rinsed it off and put it in a plate for lunch tomorrow. She had a fit and threw it in the garbage!! What a waste when people are starving somewhere!!

AAH, when you need the blurters from Haiti, where are they? (hijacking truck convoys), I guess Ill weigh in here, yes its shocking that bacteria is all around us, even more shocking that it really doesnt mean squat. As a matter of fact they believe the reason kids are so allergic to so much today is because they spend their time inside very clean homes and are not exposed to, quess? DIRT!, yes folks socially its taboo and culturally, well I like to think were not starving, so, enjoy  your food however, and send some bowls to countries that are always dropping food and eating it. Bon Appetite!
