Yes. The pomelo is the same thing as a grapefruit. What is occasionally sold in supermarkets by the name of pomelo is really a type of grapefruit. True pomelos are green, not as juicy as a regular grapefruit and may weigh as much as 4.5 pounds (2 kilograms).

The grapefruit was discovered in the middle of the 18th century on the island of Barbados, and is a naturally occurring cross between a pomelo and an orange. Crosses between grapefruit and pomelo are also occasionally offered as pomelo.

The pomelo is a citrus fruit that is very high and rich in vitamin C. Many people really enjoy eating pomelos or grapefruits for breakfast in the mornings and there are also many different brands of pomelo or grapefruit juice available in grocery stores. It is a good source of vitamins and minerals and is a good way to start one's days.

Then the answer is no. A pomelo is its own species of fruit and a grapefruit may in fact be a hybrid of the pomelo. In California and Hawaii, pueblos are sold as pueblos and grapefruits are sold as grapefruit and there are may be a dozen varieties of pueblos and some pomelo-grapefruit crosses

So, if you are on Blood Pressure medication, is the Pomelo as dangerous as a grapefruit?

Does it have the same chemical in it that has the detrimental effects grapefruits and grapefruit juices have?

This is a seriously important question that NO ONE seems to have a definitive answer to. To those who love grapefruit and can't eat it, this would be a wonderful substitute, if only someone knew for sure.

Grapefruit and blood pressure meds are a deadly combination.

Is the same true for Pomelo?
