APPLE CRUMB PIE

Preheat oven to 350* F

Have a DEEP pie pan already filled with a plain prepared pie crust of your choice. Set in refrigerator while you do the following:

CRUMB TOPPING- With a pastry cutter or food processor, cut together in a large bowl until crumbly... The size of small peas...(DON'T STIR TOGETHER, you must cut it in-look that up in a cookbook if you don't know) , the following ingredients:

(Use measuring cup)

1 cup white granulated sugar

1 cup of packed light brown sugar

1 cup regular flour

I and 1/2 stick of cold real butter which has been cut into slices------set mixture to the side (I put mine in the fridge) once nice and crumbly.

APPLE FILLING--Meanwhile, in a large bowl, peel and cut up your favorite apples for the filling. About 4-6 large apples or 6-8 medium sized apples, into slices or small chunks. I mix different types of apples together and leave the skins on some of them when I do this. It makes for a nice color and flavor. (For the new cooks out there, DON'T put in the apple core or seeds) There are also canned apples (NOT apple pie filling) you can use if you want to (I would use 3-4 cans of apples if using canned apples)

SEASON YOUR APPLES---Now add the magic ingredients to your cut up apples (which are still in the bowl.) Sprinkle in about 1 cup of white granulated sugar, 1/2 cup of brown sugar, a little cinnamon, a pinch of nutmeg, a smidgen of ginger, (there is also Apple Pie Spice... You could use a teaspoon of that) AND 1/2 teaspoon of SALT (yes, salt). Mix well. NOW add 1/2cup of milk or cream and 1 teaspoon of vanilla. Mix all  quickly together and pour into your pie crust scraping sides of bowl all into the crust.

Put about 6-8 thin slices of real butter here and there on poured filling.

TOP WITH CRUMB TOPPING-Pour all that crumb mix all on top of apples and mound it high and pretty. SLOWLY DIZZLE ONE STICK OF MELTED BUTTER all around the top of crumb mixture.

BAKE----put on cookie sheet to bake at 350*F so the juices don't get all over your stove bottom. Bake for 45 minutes until lightly browned and nice and bubbly. Let cool for one hour. This is so good you won't believe it.

I'll take apple pie please. I don't like blueberry. A cup of coffee would be nice too...............and some vanilla ice cream on top of the pie.......maybe some whipped cream too.

Apple. I learned how to bake them a few months ago. If my husband ate dessert I would probably make it about once a month.
