You will be glad to know that making a cake is not difficult and it will defiantly be something you can show off to your friends and family instead of feeling slightly guilty that the cake is shop bought!. Making a cake from scratch depends on the type of cake you want to make but the fundamentals are basically the same with every cake. Firstly, find an easy recipe for the cake you wish to make. Secondly, make sure you have all the correct ingredients that the recipe states that you need. Also, make sure you have all the correct utensils. Make sure you understand all of the weights and abbreviations for ingredients such as oz for ounces or tsp for table spoon. Also, make sure you know how to grease and line the cake tin as this will save you time. Lining involves placing the grease paper so it covers the bottom and sides of the tin. Greasing involves rubbing butter or margarine onto the greasing paper which will help to ensure the cake does not stick. Be sure to check if the recipe is American or English as they both use different words to the other.
