Or mexico
No one can be precisely sure where oranges first grew. It simply doesn't exist in a wild state, any more. It's generally thought that the fruit trees originated in either souther China, nort-east India or maybe somewhere else in southeast Asia. Probably by the time oranges as an eastern exotic started to be imported to Europe (in the 1400s) the plant had already been cultivated for several hundred years. The cultivated variety may have simply out-competed its ancestral species for habitat.
Oranges nowadays, that we eat are overwhelmingly from Spain (for Europeans) or California and Florida (for north Americans). South American oranges (and related varieties of citrus) are increasingly penetrating both the US and European markets, though.
The name for the colour orange in English actually came after the fruit (was named after the fruit, to be specific). It was first used in this context in English in the 1500s.

Based on personal observation, I think it's most likely from somewhere in southeast asia. There are varieties of citrus fruits grown here that most people have never seen or heard of- I've personally seen somewhere around 10 distinct types of limes (some grown for food, others grown for the acid they produce and used to make things like shampoo), and fruit such as mongkut- a very light citrus fruit with a very sweet flavor, with the distinction that the fruit itself has no skin over the segments, but the rind of the fruit is noticeably thicker than an orange and has to be peeled with a knife. Still others are "Som-Oo" (thai name), which is similar to a grapefruit but the size of a soccer ball, with a rind somewhere around an inch thick.
This might be coincidence, many of these might simply be imported, but the mongkut at the very least is native to SE Asia.
