Equal amounts will work fine, however rice flour does not cook the same way. Just as you wouldn't use self rising flour for certain things. It just depends what you are cooking. Also I don't like rice flour for gravies/sauces as much as wheat, as it doesn't thicken as well.
You can use the same overall amount, but rice flour doesn't work terribly well on its own. It's best mixed with arrowroot and other ingredients - you can find a formula, as well as other food advice, here.
