I don't know but I just open one up that I got about two years ago and it tasted good .
I keep a large pantry, and have been know to discover cans of soup that were purchased over 5 years ago. I have never had a problem with them. If I ever found any that had a bulge in them, I would discard.
I have read of people opening up former bomb shelters and using the food from the 1960's and '70's, a half century later.

Check the expiration date on the can to get an idea

I read the answer that Mensan gave. Good one. But I know I've had cans of food for 3-5 years. And don't remember a bad flavor. Very interesting question keithold! Thanks!
Until the expiration date basically.
After 3 years past the date...tomato soup still holds!
