It is the responsibility of the individual person to choose how much junk food they want to eat, most people are aware of the consequences of eating junk food.
When children are watching television and see junk food advertisements, it is the guardian of the child’s responsibility to take care of the child.
Junk food isn’t harmful to you in small amounts; only in huge amounts is it harmful, so why stop advertising it? Kids still go to shopping centres and other places where there will be junk food; it’s not going to reduce their desire for it.
Banning junk food is like saying that paint shouldn't be advertised because people might think “Hmmm paint” and go and eat.
If used/ taken correctly the product isn't harmful. It is the use that makes junk food harmful to people.
Where is the line to call something junk food?
There will be a massive loss of employment if the advertisements are banned.
There will be a big loss of advertisements in general and when there is need to have commercial breaks during movies and television shows, there will be repetition of ads.
Instead of banning junk food ads, why not increase the number of commercials of healthy foods. This way there will be many benefits, such as the increase of employment.
What can this do? Why don’t people put in their own efforts and initiative to tackle against obesity. This will be a more efficient and easier method.
Junk food ads don’t influence eating habits. For example, yes cigarette ads got banned, but as replacement ads against cigarettes came in.
There have been loads of warning and obesity ads and other indications for us to stop unhealthy eating, but people should be able to make their own choices.
People should keep a balance with junk food, healthy food and exercise.
Junk food is not the sole cause of the increasing obesity of children -parents, schools and kids themselves are as much to blame as any food group. Anything in moderation is never a bad thing but when kids are encouraged to eat more and exercise less the problems become severe.
I don't think that junk food adverts should be banned because at the end of the day, the company who produce the food have to make a profit, and advertising is the only way really. People do decide what they eat when it comes down to it, and children in today's world do actually realise what they are eating believe it or not!
