Can Pulled Pork Be Made With Pork Loin?

Although it would not be traditional pulled pork (from the shoulder joint)  you can use pork loin to make pulled pork. Here's how:

  • Once you have cooked the pork, place it in a baking dish with some seasoning, a cup of water, some garlic and salt and pepper. Cover this with tin foil or a lid.
  • Cook for at least 3-4 hours and check to make sure the pork is not getting too dry. Cook until the pork falls off the bone simply with your fingers.
  • Once cooked, pull the pork off the bones or apart with two forks.
  • Pour a sauce of your choice over the pork.
  • Cook on the barbecue or grill to your liking and enjoy!
So, as you can see, you can use pork loin to make pulled pork; it just isn't traditional pulled pork which does not really matter. Next time you make a pork roast and end up with too much meat then you could consider trying this; so that you can have lovely pulled pork sandwiches for lunch the next day. Just ensure that the pork is cooked so much that you can just pull the pork apart with minimum effort and you will have some tasty packed lunches.

Absolutely.  Low temperature and save the juices!!  I normally cook on pork loins the night before and save all the juices and mix them after I have pulled the pork.

I've made pulled pork with the loin, and if it's done at a lower temperature, and basted with a marinade, or barbeque sauce, it can turn out very tender and good.  It pulls apart very well.  It's been awhile since I made it, but I may have pounded it out to break down the meat, to ensure tenderness.  Good luck!

Slow cook your meat in the oven at 250 for about 5 hours.  You can pour a can of stewed tomatoes, or BBQ sauce over them for the moisture.  I wrap the meat up in tin foil when I'm cooking this way.

No, not really. You would not want to use a pork loin. That is like using a filet mignon to make a pot roast. It would be much better to use a pork shoulder or other cut of meat.
