There are obvious things to do to promote weight gain in people who are HIV+. These come down to doing all the things that are health for anybody:
Don't smoke.
Get plenty of rest.
Get regular mild to moderate exercise (not more, and possibly a bit less).
Do eat a healthy balanced diet.
Limit or eliminate intake of caffeinated drinks.
Do stick to any medication regime.
Otherwise the general strategy for gaining weight is to eat a high carbohdrate and high fat diet, with enough protein to meet your needs, too. Milk and cheese are excellent foods for putting lbs on. Also, eat 5-6 smaller meals rather than just 2-3 big ones. Go for at least one high calorie item at each meal. Don't eat fruit/veg at the expense of carbs/meat/fat. But also don't eat too much heavy fatty or meaty foods, as these are hard to digest.
