Cream of wheat is basically wheat based and being wheat based, it contains gluten. Cream of wheat is made from farina, that is ground wheat and hence it contains gluten. This is because Gluten is one of the major proteins found in wheat among other proteins like gliadin, albumin, and globulin. There are many people who are allergic to Gluten and have to avoid foods containing gluten. Being allergic to gluten is the same like being allergic to wheat and wheat based products.

A nice healthy alternative is cooked quinoua   with cinnamon and fruit.   Eat it warm or cold.   It is a grain that has the perfect complex of amino acids to make it a perfect protein.   You can find it most   supermarkets in the health food or   bulk sections.

No offence guest, but ppaul do not "cheat" on your gluten free diet, especially if you have celiac disease, this can do your body a lot of damage and can even be dangerous depending on how serious your case is. Definitely speak with your doctor regarding your diet and whether or not you can eat cream of wheat or any product with gluten in it.

Whether cream of wheat has gluten in it or not, it is absolutely good for you, low in fat and has a lot of iron. It's best when made over the stove (vs microwave) bc the kernels have more time to absorb the milk and get soft. If you're on a gluten-free diet and want to cheat, do it with cream of wheat.
After it's cooked, I add cinnamon (sp) and brown sugar or cut up a banana and some maple syrup. That's usually for the kids and how my mother always made it. I prefer it plain bc then it virtually fat free if you use skim milk. It's also ok cold although I wouldn't recommend heating it back up.
