I recommend keeping caloric intake near the RDA level and follow proper nutrition habits. What you must do is develop an exercise or fitness schedule and estimate your daily caloric intake and expenditure. One pound of body fat is approximately equal to 3500 calories. That means, if you can comfortably expend 350 more calories per day than you intake you should be able to lose one pound in ten days. That is an attainable goal but don't be afraid to start out slower and adjust to your new routine.
