A 300 pound, 5 foot, ten inch, 25 year old man burns about 2450 calories a day to MAINTAIN his weight. You have to consider the person's height, but if you are around that height it is a good estimate. You need to eat 3500 calories less a week to lose one pound of fat. If you eat 1700 calories instead of the 2450 you would need to maintain, you would end up with a calorie deficit of 5250. You end up losing about a pound and a half a week without any exercise - if you increase exercise you can burn more. It is best to lose two pounds a week if you want to keep it off, but at 300 pounds, it is pretty safe to lose 3 pounds a week until at least half of your weight loss. Don't be surprised if you lose a little more initially but it will start falling at 1.5 pounds without exercise. Whatever you do...don't cut out too many calories or your body will think it is starving. When you lose more weight, remember you will need to recalculate, but I would stick to this for three months.
Hi, I read online somewhere that a 300 pound woman, doing normal activities and housework burns about 4200 calories a day. The very minimum for calories is a little over 1400 calories a day. Less than this could be putting your body into starvation mode which stores fat that you take in. You should also be aware that the normal intake of fat for a woman should not exceed 60 grams a day. So, if you had a 1500 calorie diet with 60 grams of fat, you could burn approximately 2700 calories a day. It has also been noted online that 3500 calories makes up one pound. So, if you add exercise totaling 800 calories burned, you could lose a pound a day.
Most people should eat at least 1,200 calories a day. More if you r a guy or if you do a lot of physical activity.
Thank you for sharing the information color switch
I'm about the same weight - I think I'm about 310. I'm currently eating 1700 a day and doing at least 30 mins exercise. I have tried doing about 1300 but I was just miserable. Even 1700 is a big cut down to what I used to have so I'll let you know if I lose anything on 1700 a day x
I am in the same boat - 300 lbs, 5'11", desk job. About 35% fat. I have been counting calories for about 3 months. I have gone from 310lbs to 300 eating 2800 cals a day in three months (about a pound a week). I also work out 3/4 times a week for an hour (HR 170 for an hour). I just shifted my baseline down to 2750 a day. It's higher than what a lot of people say, but these are my actual findings.
