I am a 55 year old woman with knee arthritis, high blood pressure and high blood cholesterol. I want to prepare my own fruit and vegetable juices. I also love to eat the raw fruits. How many do I need in a day? Eg. 1 or 2?   I weigh 170lbs and I am 5ft 6in tall. Please help me, because I am always lost in the scientific calculations.

An average size apple or orange count as 1 serving towards your 5 a day. Eat one of each and use the remaining 3 for veg with meals

Not many, because, especially oranges, are loaded with sugar. And yes, fruit sugar will jack-up blood sugar, just like white sugar will and that is never good. Berries are the lowest in sugar and packed with healthy nutrients. Always eat some protein with fruit, because it helps slow down the sugar effect on the blood...

If you are talking about the actual fruit then you should have 1 apple and 1 orange and this is becaue in your 5 a day there should be a variety of fruits so that you can get all the vitamins that you need so having 1 of each will make you have one of your 5 a day portion.
And if it is the juice then you should have 1 medium glass of each and this is equivalent to one portion of your 5 a day.
