There are so many ways to calculate carb intake, it does get confusing. Roughly, carbohydrates should account for about 60% of your diet, so if you imagine a plate of food, more than half of it should contain carbs (which, to my annoyance, doesn't just mean a mound of potatoes - you need a mix of foods.)
