Cabbage is a leafy vegetable that forms a tight head at the core and has layers of leaves overlapping the head. This wonder vegetable comes in green, red and purple varieties. It is referred to as a wonder vegetable because research reveals that the juice of the cabbage is currently being put to the test, to cure cancer and weakness post-cardiac arrest.

The vegetable can measure 15cm across, to the head and can be as large as 30cm in diameter. There are two types of cabbages grown, the regular green/red variety and the 'savoy' cabbage. The regular green/red variety has smooth leaves, while the savoy cabbage has wrinkled leaves. Both varieties are consumed the world over and are part of the healthy and well-balanced diet, most nutritionists prescribe. Cabbage can be steamed, well-cooked or consumed raw.

Cabbage grows well in cool and moist climates. It thrives in regions with rich, fertile soil.
Cabbage grows well in all parts of the continent of Asia. In fact, there are a very few regions where the vegetable cannot be grown. The color, size and variety may differ from place to place. The vegetable grows well in kitchen garden patches and commercially. Commercially, there is a special farming technique adopted to grow cabbage in a region that does not support the required natural climatic and soil conditions. The technique involves the creation of the artificial 'exterior' support the vegetable needs to grow healthy. Cabbage is extensively grown in the Mediterranean and Tropics too.
