It seems that cereals made predominantly from rice and wheat are the cereals that offer the least potassium. This means that cereals like Rice Crispies, Quaker cereals, and cereals that are made from nothing other than wheat are going to be the best option for you.

Potassium is an essential mineral that is found in most food sources out there, and the mineral is important for stopping strokes, high blood pressure and osteoperosis. However, some people with medical conditions must ensure that they only consume a low-potassium diet, for health reasons. For instance, those who suffer with hyperkalemia will have to eat foods low in potassium. Hyperkalemia is a condition that is caused by kidneys having a problem eliminating potassium from the body. By ensuring that these people eat foods low in potassium, they can remain healthy.

Some fruit out there actually have low levels of potassium, despite most fruits containing an awful lot. You should avoid bananas, apricots and avocados, and instead try and eat things like blueberries, cranberries, pears and applesauce to replace the fruit in your diet. These are acceptably low in potassium, and are also great solutions to snacking.

Chicken and turkey are two meats that have less than 250 mg of potassium per every three ounces. They’re great diet foods, as not only do they taste ‘normal’, but they allow you to remain healthy if you can only consume small amount of potassium in your diet. These meats are also low in fat and carbohydrates, meaning you can focus on dropping the pounds, too. Remember to check the ingredients of all other foods that you eat if you need to remove potassium from your diet as much as possible. There will be enough scope for you to make the right decisions about which foods you should eat.
