The general rule of thumb for fish is that you cook it as quickly as possible and on a high temperature so that it does not become dry and overcooked.

How long you bake Tilapia for will depend on the thickness of the fish that you use, but an ideal way of telling whether any fish is cooked is by sticking a pointed, sharp bladed knife into the thickest part. Place the tip of the knife against your lips and if it is hot then the fish is cooked.

  • Recipe for Lemon Garlic Tilapia for four people
For this recipe you will need to have four tilapia fillets; a tablespoon of butter that has been melted; three tablespoons of fresh lemon juice; a finely chopped garlic clove; a teaspoon of dried parsley and pepper to taste.

Your oven will need to be pre-heated to 190 degrees centigrade (375 degrees Fahrenheit).

Take an oven proof baking dish and oil it; if you prefer you can use a non stick cooking spray. This will reduce the amount of calories that are in the overall dish.

Wash the tilapia fillets under cold water, taking care that it does not splash onto utensils or work surfaces. If it does, you must wash them down because there is a risk that harmful bacteria will be spread in this manner. (This is true of any raw fish or meat; harmful bacteria that are on the surface will be rendered harmless by the cooking process).

Once the fillets have been washed, pat them dry with paper towels. They can then be placed into the baking dish and you can pour the lemon juice over them. The butter should be drizzled over the top of the fish, and then the garlic, parsley and pepper can be added.

Place the baking dish with the fish and other ingredients into the preheated oven and bake until the fish is white and flaky when it is pulled apart by a fork, which should take about 30 minutes.

50 minutes? That's crazy! 15-20 minutes max if in oven. If pan frying 3-5 minutes each side.

I use a toaster overn @350 preheated
crush potato chips into crumbs...sprinkle over frozen fish...spray with olive oil..bake 15 min...oooh so good!

Your talking to the right man because I tried something that was awesome(and easy)
Open up a big can of peaches and pour the juice into a bowl,(keep the peaches to eat later or make a smoothie).If you don't think you have enough juice use 2 cans.
How to bake salmon in the oven? Put your tilapia in the peach juice and refridgerate for 3 hours then take them out of the peach juice and tumble them in italian breadcrumbs and place them on a cookie sheet(spray the cookie sheet with cooking spray first so they don't stick)
preheat the oven to 350 and bake for 15-20 minutes.
melt some butter and after the tilapia has been cooking for 5 minutes,drizzle a little butter on each piece and finish baking.
This was the best Tilapia I ever ate and it was so easy!
